Looking from a longitudinal perspective, the oil and gas business today is not as profitable as it was in the 1980s or 1990s. It is reasonably fair to predict that there will be a time when the oil and gas business will not be as attractive as it is today. Indeed, even though the industry has not faded, but its contribution to the Indonesian economy has been less and less in comparison to other industries 

This is the reason why this book is here to understand the Indonesia oil and gas experience into relevant context. 

This book certainly does not intend to provide a solution to the energy transition problem, although the last few chapters go into great detail about the future and challenges of the oil and gas development in Indonesia. Rather, this book is intended to record, document, analyze, evaluate the 'experience' and journey of the Indonesian upstream oil and gas business. The future of Indonesia's upstream oil and gas business will also be covered in this book. Certainly, this is not a 'history' book

Through this book we hope to provide an overview and share our experience, assess the Indonesian oil and gas policies and management, discuss the current and future potential problems. Our goal is for as many parties to gain as much benefit as possible from our efforts.

For instance, Indonesia's experience may serve as a relevant case study for further policy analysis to support decision making in other countries, especially emerging economies. For academics, this book can be used as a reference when writing scientific reviews or policy reviews which will ultimately contribute to knowledge and enrich scientific analysis. For observers and media crew, in Indonesia or other countries, it is hoped that this book can enrich understanding as well as become a candle of light in dark and dim spaces.
